Autumn Equinox and Ayurveda
September 23 marks the transition into shorter days and cooler weather!
Ayurveda is the Science of Life Balance. The Autumn Equinox is a perfect time to re-dedicate ourselves to living balanced lives. The day and night are equal in length, which makes this the time when opposing forces are held in perfect balance.
After today, the balance in the universe shifts towards the dark and the cold. This new balance will heighten the environmental influences of Vata. Vata is cold, dry, chaotic, unfocused, inconsistent, and contemplative. When Vata becomes excessive in our bodies, we feel lonely and uprooted. Our skin becomes overly dry, and our joints start cracking and popping. We feel a lot of fear without knowing why, and this fear begins to influence our actions and perceptions. Excess Vata also causes irregular digestion (early symptoms are belching, gas, and bloating).
To enter into Autumn as balanced individuals, Ayurvedic Practitioners recommend engaging in a seasonal cleanse. The cleansing process eliminates the excess doshas from the body and mind, restoring harmony. Cleansing brings us into the new season with strong digestion and healthy and immune function.
For those who are interested, I am running a group cleansing program from October 3 to October 10. Find details at: http://michelleshealthrevolutionblog.weebly.com/3/post/2015/09/tue-sep-22-2015.html
Registration closes tomorrow at 5 PM.
For those who have no interest in cleansing, make sure you incorporate some Vata-balancing practices into your daily routine. Make time every day to meditate. Nourish the skin with dosha-balancing oil. Play. Don't forget who you are in this season of chaos!
Blessings,
