The basic principle of balance in Ayurveda is that like increases like. When a dosha is increased in the body, we must take actions that are in some ways opposite of that dosha. When I wake up in the morning, I feel slow, heavy, and foggy. I just want to be still. These are qualities of Kapha dosha. Kapha influences are dominant from 6-10 AM and 6-10 PM, during spring, and in childhood. Kapha in the environment increases the qualities of Kapha within the body. To balance these qualities, even if I don't feel like it, I need to get moving. So I take my son to school and then I go for my morning walk. By the time I'm done walking, I feel awake, mentally refreshed, and excited to start the day.
