Last week, I mentioned that speaking one's truth is an essential component of mind-body health. I thought it may be helpful to explain a little more about what it means to "speak your truth".
There are countless situations that we all encounter on a daily basis in which we decide it is better not to say what we really want to say. In many cases, this decision may save a relationship or preserve a career. Although we may not be able to express ourselves fully in the moment, it is vital to have a person to whom you can express your deepest thoughts and emotions. It is not sufficient to simply think about things in your own head because then they do not get processed and released. Speaking vibrates the vocal chords and creates vibrations throughout the body. Vibration is movement and we need this movement to release emotions from inside of ourselves.
If you feel that there is no one in your life to whom you can express your inner truth, You can still release emotions by singing and journaling. Singing helps to release emotions by moving them outside the body, while journaling can allow us to express our thoughts in a forum that is free from judgment.
Repressed emotions crystallize in the body and become stored deep in the tissues. These emotions manifest in bone disorders and thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Speaking your truth on a regular basis, whether it is to another person out loud or written down in a journal is an essential part of maintaining mental and physical health.
