In Ayurveda, we recognize stress as causing imbalances in the Vata dosha. This association exists because Vata is the principle of motion in the body. When you are stressed, some parts of the body work overtime while others shut down; the motion of everything in the body changes from the norm.
Here are 10 signs of subconscious stress:
1. You have become more forgetful than usual.
2. You have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and/or heartburn.
3. You frequently get tension headaches (these are different from migraines).
4. You develop muscle twitches, especially in the eye area.
5. You have become irritable and your temper flares quickly.
6. You are not sleeping well at night.
7. You are sleeping well but you always feel exhausted.
8. You have trouble focusing on one thing at a time.
9. You have high blood pressure.
10. You get sick often because your immune system is weak.
As with any list of symptoms put out into the world, stress is not the only factor that can cause these 10 things to occur. However, if you are exhibiting one or more of these stress signals it's a good idea to discuss stress management with a qualified health professional.
