I have this in a frame on my desk at work. It reminds me that it is only my perspective that can disconnect me from the Divine. By "Divine", I am referring to the Universe outside ourselves, the natural world and the atomic vibrations that make us all interdependent. Regardless of one's belief in gods or God, we are always connected to the world around us. How we define that connection is typically dependent on our religious beliefs, but the truth of connection does not change no matter how we choose to frame it. We exist in an amazingly complex web of energetic connections to people, places, and things. Regardless of whether we spend much time outdoors, we are all influenced by the cycles of nature.
When I read these words on my desk everyday, it reminds me that there are joyful and inspiring things happening around me constantly, if only I keep myself open to perceiving them.
I am not saying that I ignore all the things that bring me down. Denial of emotion in favor of "focusing on the positive" does nothing but cause emotional storage inside. Feel the negative and acknowledge it without judgment. Process it and let it go. Day by day, I believe that staying open to the beauty around us gives us light, even when our world seems dark. In the times when our world is all light and joy, it's just that much sweeter.
